Das ursprünglich aus Bulgarien stammende Unternehmen wurde seit dem 8. Jahrhundert in Ferrara gegründet. Es war in drei Hauptlinien unterteilt, von denen eine nach Rovigo, die zweite nach Ancona und die dritte nach Ferrara führte, wo einige Mitglieder dem Magistrat der 12 Savi gehörten. Ein Marchesello oder Marchesiello wurde zum Marquis der Marca Anconitana ernannt und überließ seinen Namen seinen Nachkommen; Ein William wurde 795 Oberster Kapitän der beiden Burgen Cortesi und Alto unter der allgemeinen Aufsicht des Soldaten des gesamten Staates geschaffen. Es hatte die Herrschaft von Ferrara und viele Besitztümer in Polen und in der Marca von Ancona. Der Ferrara-Zweig starb im Haus von Este in der Person von Marchesella aus, der gegen Ende des XII. Jahrhunderts starb; das von Ancona gedieh für eine sehr kurze Zeit, und das von Rovigo, bekannt als Bulgari, starb 1633 in der Person von Galeazzo, der ein sehr freundlicher Dichter war. Anderer
