Ancienne et très noble famille du Royaume des Deux-Siciles, de vertu claire et ancestrale, qui s'est répandue au cours des siècles dans diverses régions d'Italie. Selon ce qui a été transmis par Mugnos, c'est une famille souabe qui s'est déplacée en Sicile dans la suite de l'empereur Henri VI qui, pour les services qu'il lui a rendus, a donné à Lanfranco Adinolfi la domination sur Catane. Son fils Giovanni a été créé écuyer majeur de l'empereur Frédéric II et c'est peut-être le même Giovanni qui, en mai 1240, était chargé de la collecte des devoirs à Terra di Lavoro et Molise et qui en 1283 était parmi les chevaliers de Monte San Giuliano. En 1294, un Tommaso Adinolfi est mentionné comme "dominus". Le 29 janvier 1517, un Mazzullo Adinolfo, du nom marital de Pina, fille de Pietra Barbulato, fut investi du fief de Formica.
