Antiga e mui nobre família do Reino das Duas Sicílias, de clara e ancestral virtude, que se propagou ao longo dos séculos em várias regiões da Itália. Segundo o que foi transmitido por Mugnos, trata-se de uma família suábia que se mudou para a Sicília na comitiva do imperador Henrique VI que, pelos serviços prestados a ele, deu a Lanfranco Adinolfi o domínio de Catania. Seu filho Giovanni foi nomeado escudeiro-mor do imperador Frederico II e talvez seja o mesmo Giovanni que em maio de 1240 estava encarregado da cobrança de deveres em Terra di Lavoro e Molise e que em 1283 estava entre os cavaleiros de Monte San Giuliano.
