Antica famiglia di Cremona trapiantata nel regno di Napoli dai fratelli Ruggiero e Leucio, familiari ed armigeri di re Ladislao e della regina Giovanna II. Ha goduto tra l'altro nobiltà in Cremona, Barletta, Monopoli, Benevento. Vestì l'abito di Malta nel 1565. Appartennero al ramo di Cremona: Pietro, capo della fazione guelfa di quella città; Ottavio, marchese di Grumello e conte di Romanengo, capitano al servizio di re Filippo II di Spagna; Alessandro ucciso dagli Ugonotti all'assedio di Poitiers; Giov. Battista perito nella battaglia di Lepanto, oltre a molti decurioni il primo dei quali fu un Giampietro nel 1300. Questo ramo di Cremona si estinse nel sec. XVII nella famiglia Barbiano di Belgioioso. Il ramo di Napoli si trasferì a Bari e successivamente a Barletta, ove venne iscritto a quel patriziato, ed investito del titolo marchionale col predicato di Canosa (a. 1677).
