Antichissima e nobilissima famiglia dal Regno di Sicilia detta Agliata o Alliata, con rami familiari propagati in Toscana fregiata di innumerevoli titoli nobiliari. La tradizione vuole che questa famiglia discenda dalla gente Allia o Ellia, del tempo della repubblica Romana, la quale, avendo avuto dei Zecchieri, impresse sulle monete il proprio nome. Si hanno memorie di un Dazio, signore di Angleria, e molto dopo degli Agliata signori di Candia, al tempo di Costantino Imperatore. Da Milano andò a Pisa, la famiglia, per discordie avute con le famiglie Lavelli ed Abaguzzani. Passò in Sicilia nel 1300 da Pisa, ove era una delle prime famiglie. Ha goduto nobiltà nelle città di Milano, Palermo, Pisa, Noto, ed in Grecia. Fu ricevuta nell'ordine di Malta nel 1530. Si vedono, inoltre, monumenti di essa in Palermo nelle chiese di S. Francesco, S. Maria di Gesù, di S. Francesco di Paola e dei Riformati. Ebbero molte
