Questa famiglia è assai antica e nobile in Toscana, come riferisce il Mecatti nella sua "Storia fiorentina". Dal XIII sec. esercitò in Firenze la carica di priore fino al 1347, con 14 componenti della propria schiatta. Piero Aguglielmi fu, nel 1332, gonfaloniere. Nel XIV sec. dovette abbandonare la patria e trasferirsi in Siena. Bartolomeo Aguglielmi, sposata Caterina, l'unica sorella del Pontefice Pio II, diede origine ai Aguglielmi-Piccolomini, come da disposizione testamentaria di quel Pontefice. Guglielmo, n. nel 1532 si trasferì in Vallebona (Ventimiglia) e la famiglia in definitivo si stabilì in Roma nel 1788. Bernardino e Giacomo, nobili senesi furono, nel XV secolo, valorosi filosofi e magistrati. Alessandro fu ambasciatore di Siena, presso il duca Cosimo I. Giambattista (1600) eresse a proprie spese in Vallebona la chiesa del Sacro Cuore. Don Gio. Battista fu, in Vallebona, rettore ed istitutore del Fedecommesso Aguglielmi (1636).
