Of Germanic origin, it was transplanted to Italy by the knight Agussello count Anguisciola, who had been called there by Cardinal Albornoz, legate of Innocent VI, and shortly afterwards settled in Cesena. Here he took an active part in the expulsion of the tyrant Francesco Ordelaffi, and took over his power with the title of governor of the city. Having become a citizen of Cesena, he changed the surname of Anguisciola to that of Aguselli which he left to his descendants. Upon his death he left the family divided into three branches which all stood out for their civil and religious virtues. In the time of the factions in which the Agusellis were involved, Antonio and Orazio, counts of Linara, left memory of themselves, of which the first due to jealousy of women fell into an intrigue that cost him his life, which was taken from him by Camillo Buda
