De origen germánico, fue trasplantada a Italia por el caballero Agussello conde Anguisciola, que había sido llamado allí por el cardenal Albornoz, legado de Inocencio VI, y poco después se instaló en Cesena. Aquí tomó parte activa en la expulsión del tirano Francesco Ordelaffi, y asumió su poder con el título de gobernador de la ciudad. Habiéndose hecho ciudadano de Cesena, cambió el apellido de Anguisciola por el de Aguselli, que dejó a sus descendientes. A su muerte dejó a la familia dividida en tres ramas todas las cuales se destacaron por sus virtudes civiles y religiosas. En la época de las facciones en las que estaban envueltos los Aguselli, Antonio y Orazio, condes de Linara, dejaron memoria de sí mismos, de los cuales el primero por celos de mujeres cayó en una intriga que le costó la vida, que le fue arrebatada. por Camilo Buda en 11523, el otro
