Ebbe comune la origine con i Gabriozzi e co' Perticoni da quelli da Castello, dinasti antichissimi, e forse gli Albari fuorno i conti di Castel dell'Alboro o de Albario (presso Castelsanpietro), uno de' quali, Lotario, fece la sua dedizione a Bologna nel 1178. Nel 1228 erano nobili di parte geremea e nei conflitti di questa coll'avversaria dei Lambertazzi grandemente si segnalarono. Nel XIII ed in parte nel XIV secolo gli Albari maneggiarono gli affari di Stato. Bonaccorso nel 1203 fu uno dei due Consoli di giustizia e nel 1221 fu Procuratore del Comune. Dal 1351 al 1359 si trovano undici volte tra gli anziani, e da ultimo nel Consiglio dei seicento nel 1387.
