La famiglia è fra le più antiche di Bergamo. Alcuni la fanno derivare dai conti Franchi, altri dai Capitani di Scalve. Quantunque non sia palese il punto di attacco nelle genealogie, pure sembra attendibile la tradizione della comune origine di queste due famiglie sia per la comunanza dei nomi propri, sia per quella dei beni nell'alta Val Seriana e particolarmente a Bagnatica ed a Costa di Mezzate, dimostrata da documenti del sec. XII. Capostipite della famiglia fu Alberto d'Albertone console di Bergamo, deputato ai giuramenti di Lodi (1160) e di Piacenza per la Lega Lombarda e oratore di Bergamo a Costanza (1183), dove sottoscrisse la pace con l'Impero. Vuolsi che egli ottenesse dal Barbarossa il Castello con terreni a Bolghera, confiscato poi dalla Repubblica Veneta per fellonia a Cabrino, insieme coi beni ch'egli aveva in Val Seriana. Da questo Albertone ebbe origine il cognome Degli Albertoni, conservato da
