La famiglia in Roma fu nobile ed antica. Il Petrone, nel suo Diario, riferisce che, sotto il 18 ottobre 1434, il Popolo Romano mandò tre ambasciatori, nobili cittadini romani, a Papa Eugenio IV, che dimorava in Fiorenza, tra i quali fu Rienzo di Martin Leni, del Rione della Pigna. E, nel 1445, il med. Papa donò, come abbiamo riferito più volte di sopra, ricchi vestiti ad 80 gentiluomini romani, tra i quali fu Batta, del Rione della Pigna, ove hanno sempre tenuto la Casa. Papa Martino V li pose nel Bussoleno della Nobiltà Romana, la quale, convien dire, che precedesse molto all'anno 1434. Il Talini nel Diario racconta che Papa Alessandro VI fece accompagnare la figlia, andando a marito a Ferrara, da molti gentiluomini romani, tra i quali fu Marcantonio Leni.
