Ancienne et très noble famille française, qui s'est répandue, à travers les âges, dans différentes régions d'Europe, notamment dans le sud de l'Italie. La noblesse de la famille est clairement confirmée par sa présence dans les précieux ouvrages "Teatro della nobiltà del mondo del sig. dottore don Filadelfo Mugnos", publiés à Naples en 1680, en trois volumes, et dans l'"Armorial Général" des hollandais héraldiste et généalogiste JB Rietstap (12 mai 1828–24 décembre 1891), œuvre monumentale qui contient les blasons des armoiries de plus de 130 000 familles européennes. De plus, la famille a eu les titres suivants : « coseigneurs » de Montfaucon du Velay, seigneurs d'Alès, de Vazeilhes, de la Bruyère-Vériliac, de Sauzet. Un Blaise, vivant en 1510, était le père de Claude, juge royal du Velay et lieutenant général du bailli (1522-1559), qui fit enquête sur les fautes commises par les officiers de l'évêque contre les habitants du
