Le très noble Alfieri jouissait de la dignité consulaire florentine et des autres magistratures, avant l'établissement du gouvernement populaire ; mais étant partisans du parti gibelin, ils en furent exclus et durent sortir. Neri, expulsé de Florence vers la fin du XIIIe siècle, se retira à Padoue, et certains de ses descendants s'installèrent plus tard à Asti, dans le Piémont. Une branche restée à Florence, humiliée par les revers de la fortune, dut s'inscrire aux arts, et put ainsi donner à la patrie dix-sept prieurs, dont le dernier fut Francesco, en 1526. D'un Francesco, fils du précédent l'une, frappée de proscription en 1564, dont sont issues les deux branches de Cesena et de Rimini. Autre branche.
