Antichissimo ed illustre casato, i cui membri furono Guelfi ed insieme a Ser Durante Doni cooperarono alla cacciata dei conti Guidi, circa nel 1375. Dalle più antiche memorie esistenti nei Libri dei Partiti del Comune di Modigliana, si rileva che fino dal 1377, due dei Liverani, ossia Renzo, di Pace, e Pace, di Andrea, sedevano nel Consiglio Generale che spedì, nel luglio 1377, Ser Durante Doni a stringere l'accomandigia con la Repubblica Fiorentina che allora reggevasi a parte Guelfa. Da allora figurano continuamente nelle più alte cariche; capi delle fazioni e dei rivolgimenti politici, fra i primi cittadini e più illustri. Priore, figlio di Giovanni, fu spedito con tre altri gentiluomini a Lorenzo il Magnifico che li aveva richiesti per la guardia del Palazzo e nel 1479 vi ritornò come ambasciatore. Salomone, già Connestabile di fanti nella guerra di Val d'Elsa, fu inviato ambasciatore a Firenze. Battista fu inviato oratore
