Famiglia antichissima, ritenuta di origini anscariche, fiorentine in Asti già nel secolo XII, ove ebbe un palazzo sontuoso, ora Montersino. Al principio del secolo XIV si rifugiò in Alba, parteggiando con la fazione dei Guelfi, e di là diramò largamente a Racconigi, e Ruffia, nelle Langhe, a Pinerolo, a Buriano, a Lessona, a Melazzo e nel Saluzzese.
