A linhagem dos Almansas descende de D. Froila Dias, que provinha dos Reis de Leão, pelo que é muito ilustre e antiga. Tomaram os seus descendentes o apelido da vila de A., no Reino de Múrcia, e entre eles se encotra Luís de A., senhor do estado de Alcanices, a respeito do qual se diz em Castela: Lanza por lanza, la de Luis de Almansa, aludindo ao seu grande valor militar. Parece que também os houve em Portugal.
