Ancienne et très noble famille du sud de l'Italie, connue sous le nom d'Altamore ou Altomare, de vertu claire et ancestrale, répartie au cours des siècles dans diverses régions d'Italie. Selon d'autres reconstructions héraldiques, cependant, la famille Altamore serait une branche collatérale de la noble famille Altamura, qui serait venue de Grèce et emmenée à Rome sur les ordres de l'empereur Justinien II et plus tard installée dans les Pouilles.
