Si crede che sia venuta in Sicilia dal Napoletano. Godette nobiltà in Palermo, in Messina, in Siracusa. Un Riccardo, milite, marito di Maria Alagona, ottenne da re Giacomo, concessione del feudo Buccheri, feudo riconcesso a 15 febbraio 1313 a Gerardo Montalto, figlio di Riccardo. Giovannuzzo, figlio di Gerardo, ottenne conferma del feudo Buccheri a 1 febb. 1339 e lo trasmise a Troiso o Turgisio, che fu siniscalco e famigliare di re Federico, acquistò a 16 dic. 1369 il feudo Casalgerardo e fu capitano di giustizia di Siracusa nel 1406; un Corrado, fu giurato in detta città negli anni 1400-1401- e 1403-4; un Marco fu senatore di Siracusa nel 1406-7; un Giovanni ebbe a 3 luglio 1453 conferma del feudo Buccheri e fu senatore di Siracusa negli anni 1440, 1445 e forse egli stesso fu quel Giovanni che tenne l'alta carica di strategoto di Messina nel 1460; un Antonio barone di
