Nel principio del secolo XIII un Francesco di Lucca si stabilì a Venezia dando così principio alle varie famiglie Amadei, Amadio e Amai che dimorarono per lunghi secoli in questa città. La famiglia, che, per la loro condizione assai distinta, avrebbero potuto essere nominati del Maggior Consiglio, furono compresi fra i Cittadini originari e produssero uomini insigni sia nella carriera ecclesiastica che civile. Un Michele, marito di Elisabetta Muazzo, sepolto nella chiesa di S. Stefano di Murano, fu mandato dalla Signoria di Venezia a reclutare milizie in diversi luoghi per la guerra tra Il Patriarca di Aquileia, il Conte di Gorizia ed i Veneziani in Istria nel 1287. Nel 1408 Francesco fervidamente devoto della madre di Dio, ne fece dipingere la immagine da maestro Nicolò pittore. La conservò a lungo e, desiderando che fosse venerata dal popolo, la espose entro una nicchia di legno sulla pubblica via sull'angolo della casa
