Questa famiglia è antica e Nobile Romana. Antonio de Petris, nel Diario 1414, racconta, come per il Popolo Romano furono eletti gli Officiali di Campidoglio con approvazione del Papa, il che fu cosa nuova, e tra essi pone Nicolò Marcellini. L'Abbate Paolo de Angelis, nella descrizione della Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore, al lib. 3, cap. 7, dice che Muzio Marcellini, nell'anno 1440, era Canonico della stessa Basilica. Il Petrone, nel Diario 1436, dice che Paolo Mrcellini fu uno dei Gentiluomini Romani regalato di Sontuosissimi abiti da papa Eugenio IV; e, sotto il 3 di settembre 1463, dice: Morì Oddo Marcellini, Canonico della Basilica di S. Pietro. L'Ughelli, di Corrado Marcellini che dal Vescovado di Montefeltro fu trasferito a quello di Terracina, parla nell'Italia, lib. 3. Lapide nella Chiesa dei SS. Apostoli. Il detto Corrado, vescovo di Terracina, del 1489 fonda la Cappella di S. Sebastiano nella Chiesa di S.
