Antica ed assai nobile famiglia siciliana, con residenza in Trapani, detta Amari o Amaro, il cui capostipite, al dir del Mugnos, andrebbe rinvenuto in un Leonardo, provveditore del R. Palazzo e gentiluomo di camera di Filippo III d'Aragona. Indi, il di lui figlio, Filippo fu gentiluomo di camera della regina Maria ed ebbe concesso il feudo di Gibilivasili, in territorio di Salemi, da re Martino, nel 1397. Nicolò fu cavaliere dell'abito di S. Giacomo della Spada; Giacomo, figlio del precedente, ebbe la baronia di Marineo e Risalaimi; Antonio s'investì dei feudi della Sullia, Ficuzza, e Casaliccio, nel 1550; Federico, dei feudi della Melia e Rinella, nel 1549. Segue la genealogia di tanti altri illustri baroni e distinti gentiluomini, tra i quali, al dir del Villabianca, si annovera un Michele, figlio di Antonino, che, nel 1722, s'investì della contea di S.
