Alte und sehr edle toskanische Familie, ursprünglich aus Florenz stammend, aber auch in Pistoia und Pescia wohnhaft, die sich über die Jahrhunderte in verschiedenen Regionen Italiens ausbreiteten. Nach dem, was uns überliefert wurde, stammt es aus dem alten Haus der Beccanugi und wurde in zwei Zweige geteilt. Die erste von 1284 bis 1494 hatte viermal das Gonfalonierato und 39 das Priorat. Der zweite erhielt 1366 und 1372 das Priorat bei Giovanni di Conte und 1390 und 1401 bei Conte, seinem Sohn. Letzterer war 1398 auch Gonfaloniere. Dieser zweite Zweig war nach Pistoia gezogen. Dort besaßen die Ammannati einen grandiosen Palast, in dem sie ihre Bank oder ihren Grund errichteten, der 1304 so blühte, dass er allein von der Krone Englands aus als Gläubiger von 150.000 Gulden gehalten wurde.
