Antica famiglia patrizia, originaria di Asti, trasferitasi a Trino Vercellese nel 1158. Ne parlano le antiche cronache, ricordando un Guido Antonio, che militava sotto le insegne del marchese Teodoro Paleologo, nei primi decenni del secolo XVI, e un Giovanni Michele, che partecipava come legato del marchese di Monferrato al Trattato di Cherasco del 1631. Illustre sopra tutti i personaggi della famiglia, l'Avv. Carlo Ignazio, nato a Torino il 12 maggio 1730. Laureatosi in leggi a Torino l'8 giugno 1732, fu a Vienna per perfezionassi nello studio del diritto pubblico e del diritto germanico. Là fu addetto all'ambasciata sarda, d'onde passò l'8 sett. 1773, quale ministro plenipotenziario del Re di Sardegna, alla dieta di Ratisbona, e poi, il 23 febb. 1778, alla Corte d'Olanda. Fu un lungo soggiorno all'estero, e quando rimpatriò, ebbe il 9 febb. 1790, al croce Mauriziana e la carica di sovrintendente in 2° degli archivi di Corte
