Antiga e nobre família siciliana, de virtude clara e ancestral, que se espalhou pelo mundo, ao longo dos séculos. Conhecido como Morello, Maurello ou Amorello, conta-se que veio de Milão para a Sicília, no início do século XIII, com o fidalgo Gandolfo que se estabeleceu em Messina e logo foi atribuído a esse patriciado. É importante esclarecer que a forma original do sobrenome nem sempre permaneceu intacta ao longo dos séculos com sua grafia primitiva. Muitas vezes devido a transcrições incorretas, transformações dialetais de acordo com as regiões para onde a linhagem se movia gradativamente, à caligrafia incompreensível dos escribas, etc., ocorreram mudanças na fonética e na caligrafia. Esta família também tinha filiais em Trapani, Caltanissetta e Palermo; também possuía a mina de sal Fragiovanni, o baronato de Riesi e o feudo de Trabonello.
