Cette famille est une des cinq de Provence qui offrent cette particularité de porter le nom patronymique pour nom le baptême, son ancienneté est reconnue par les divers historiens de la Provence, et notamment par Robert de Briançon, Maynier, Artefeuil, etc. La Chesnaye Desbois donne la filiation jusqu'à Louis-Joseph, avocat et magistrat, né en 1735, marié le 4 février 1772, à demoiselle Magdeleine Charlois de Goy. Louis-Melchior, fils de Joseph et de Magdeleine Charlois de Goy, né en 1792 à Signes (Var), commandant d'artillerie de marine, officier de la Légion d'honneur se maria le 4 mai 1818, à Marie-Françoise-Caroline-d'Elloz, de ce mariage il eut trois fils: 1° Léon-Gustave-Ernest; 2° Eugène, décédé en 1855, lieutenant d'artillerie de marine sans postérité; 3° Prosper, mort enfant.
