Famiglia nobile oriunda francese, dimorante in Nizza, come risulta da autentico diploma in pergamenta d'Aix 1 marzo 1668, transuntato in Palermo per ordine del vicerè di Sicilia agli atti di notar Sardo e Fontana 22 gennaro 1702, e da un albero genealogico di famiglia altresì in pergamena. In detto diploma nell'attestare la chiara nobiltà della famiglia, si fa menzione di un Lodovico de Hondis, cavaliere o milite e signore di Castelnuovo 1528, di un Andrea signore d'Allons 1629, e di un Cesare signore d'Allons e de la Mottière. Ne venne una serie d'altri illustri personaggi, che imparentarono con nobilissime famiglie, tra le altre la Doria di Genova, l'Alberti di Firenze. Un Giambattista D'O. ed Alberti secondo ne riferisce il Villabianca, la trapiantò in Palermo, ove in seguito fu ascrito alle nobili confraternite della Carità e di s.
