Originario de Provenza, fue una de las familias que se trasplantaron al reino de Nápoles a la llegada de Carlos I de Anjou. En 1311 Gerardo fue nombrado castillo de Castel Capuana y más tarde señor de Mottola en Terra d'Otranto. En 1401 Perretto fue creado conde de Troya por el rey Ladislao y el capitán de guerra en Hungría, Dalmacia y Croacia; en 1413 Minervino también estaba en feudo en Terra di Bari y las tierras de Ursara, Precina, Tresanto y Castelluccia. Posteriormente, la familia fue recibida en el orden de Malta para pruova hecha en 1707 por Giovanni. Decorado con el título de Marqués de Pescopagano; el 10 de junio de 1710 en la persona de Gennaro fue admitida en los guardaespaldas reales y se unió en 1816 a la nobleza romana. Poseía estos otros feudos: Panete y Panetelli en Terra di Lavoro, Sassano y Varallo en Molise.
