Nobile famiglia di Castel'aneta, passata poi in Taranto, alla cui nobiltà fu aggregata. Al tempo poi di Re Carlo II di Angiò possedeva il feudo di Tafagnano. Giovanni, Razionale della Regia Camera, ebbe concesso, dalla regina Giovanna, nel 1510, il feudo di Casal Laureto. Ebbe pure il possesso del Casale di Montejasi, nel XVIII secolo, sul quale Carlo ottenne da Ferdinando IV il titolo di Duca; Giacomo, figlio di Francesco Saverio, barone di Montejasi e di Ippolita Marrese, fu capitano del Reggimento di Terra d'Otranto e Grassiere del Re; Carlo fu Intendente della Provincia di terra d'Otranto dal 1832 al 1827. Ricevuta per giustizia nel S.M. Ordine di Malta nel 1787 in persona del Cavaliere Vincenzo, e come quarto della famiglia Marrese nel 1790.
