Assai breve dev'essere stata la permanenza in Tortona poiché di essi si ha solo notizia della loro partecipazione nel 1189-92 alla terza crociata in Terra Santa (Annali, I, 322) e li ritroviamo pochi decenni dopo in Alessandria tra le famiglie nobili del popolo e del Comune che godevano il diritto di accedere in parità all'anzianato ed ai Consigli comunali; di tendenza ghibellina, dimoravano nei primi tempi nel quartiere di Gamondio. In tale città risiedettero a lungo e si distinsero per la loro dedizione tanto da essere inclusi nell'editto del 9 gennaio 1417 col quale il duca Filippo Maria Visconti al fine di restaurare la pace nelle città divise dalle fazioni guelfa e ghibellina concedeva alle famiglie che volontariamente giuravano di osservare i capitoli di un editto ducale tendente alla pacificazione generale, il privilegio di portare nell'arme loro due vipere affrontate, tridecussate e caricate tra l'uno e l'altro seno di un
