La famiglia A. venne in Sicilia, ed in Messina da Capua, nella qual Città vogliono che derivasse d'Aragona, nondimeno fiorì con splendore, e con grossa facultà; perciòche ne' tempi del Re Ferdinando il Catolico, vi fù Leonardo A. chiaro Dott. di legge del suo tempo, il fratello Gerardo fù Camariero del gran Capitano Ferrante di Cordova, parimente suo figlio Pietro di D.Carlo di la Noia; un'altro gentilhuomo chiamato Francesco A. hebbe la Castellania di Milazzo dall'Imperator Carlo V e molt'altri gentilhuomini questa famiglia partorì, però la illustrò più d'ogn'altro il Mastro Rat. N. A. il quale dopo che fù promosso ne' maggiori uffici del Regno, hebbe l'ufficio di Mastr. Rat. ed in quello si morì senza lasciar prole veruna, ma sua sorella havendosi casata con Bernardo d'Amato fù genitrice del vivente Principe di Galati, e d'altri figliuoli. Altro ramo. Proveniente dalla Gallizia, si trapiantò in Sicilia, scegliendo per dimora Messina.
