La famiglia trae origine dall'Abruzzo Chietino. A Gabriele, nato a Francavilla a Mare il 12 marzo 1864, poeta, letterato e grande scrittore, deputato al Parlamento, volontario nella guerra italo-austriaca come capitano di cavalleria, decorato di medaglia d'oro al valore militare per le azioni dal maggio 1915 al novembre 1918, che compì la memoriabile impresa aviatoria su Vienna durante le ostilità, generale nella R. Areonautica, comandante di Fiume di cui propugnò l'annessione, con D.R. motu proprio di S.M. Re Vittorio Emanuele III del 15 marzo 1924 fu concesso il titolo di principe di Montevenoso (mpr.) e con R.D. 29 aprile 1926 e RR. LL. PP. 9 maggio 1926 uno speciale stemma gentilizio. La presenza del motto nella bibliografia documentata della famiglia ci conferma l'avita nobiltà raggiunta della casata. Infatti l'origine del motto risale a circa il XIV secolo e deve essere ricercata in quei detti arguti che venivano scritti sui vessilli
