Antichissima ed illustre famiglia di Parma, la quale, come giustano sia il Mugnos che il Galluppi, venne portata in Sicilia da in Giovanni Anselmo, milite al seguito di re Alfonso il Magnanimo. Il detto Giovanni, infatti, pose la propria, e così quella della sua futura stirpe, in Messina. L'origine di tal cognominizzazione, al dir di illustri genealogisti, andrebbe ricercata nell'omonimo personale, di matrice longobarda, composto dai termini "ans" (= divinità) e "helm" (= elmo), con il significato, quindi, di "elmo divino", "elmo sacro" o "difensore di Dio". Ritornando alla storia della famiglia, abbiamo il dovere di sottolineare che, in ogni epoca, tal casato, sempre riuscì a distinguersi, grazie agli elevati personaggi, a cui diede i natali. Tra i vari gentiluomini che in essa fiorirono, senza nulla levar al valore degli omessi, ricordiamo: un Bonamico ed un Bonsignore, i quali risultano annoverati, nel 1283, tra i cavalieri di Patti;un Luigi Anselmo,
