La famiglia ebbe la sua origine in Pesaro nel sec. XI. Di qui si trasferì a Rimini ove se ne ha memoria fin dal 1194, e dove un Martino fu capitano del Pozzolo nel 1252. Da Rimini si trapiantò in Urbino, ed appartenne fin dal sec. XVI alla primaria nobiltà. Un Antaldo fu vescovo di Senigallia. Nel 1626 ebbe la nobiltà romana e nel 1741 Augusto III re di Polonia concesse il titolo di marchese a Francesco, trasmissibile in linea, ma tanto ai maschi che alle femmine. Fin dal 1906 la Consulta Araldica riconobbe i titoli di Nobile di Pesaro e di Urbino, e di marchese sia ai maschi che alle femmine, come risulta dall'Elenco ufficiale nobiliare per Marche.
