Non è chiara l'origine, anche se probabilmente deriva dalla nobile casata degli Antelminelli. Da Lodi si stabilirono in Venezia, e furono ascritti alla nobiltà nel Settembre del 1646.La famiglia dei conti Catracane degli Antelminelli di Fano, non è altro che quella di Lucca. Si ricorda un Ciatto degli Antelminelli nobile di Lucca vivente nel 417. Gli Antelminelli nell'800 si divisero in più rami i quali assunsero tutti un loro stemma particolare e un cognome proprio, conservando però sempre quello "degli Antelminelli" per far vedere che essi erano di un sol ceppo. Essi si divisero: Savarigi, Mugi, Pargi, Gonnelli, Bovi, Mezzolombardi, C.. E' da ricordare un Enrico, conte di Castel Vecchio ed i Sanato che fu figlio di Guarnerio di Gerio degli A. e di cui si conosce il testamento fatto nel 1005. Appartiene a questa famiglia il celebre capitano Castruccio (1281-1328) figlio di Gerio, che fu vicario imperiale in Lucca,
