Apellido de origen castellano. Procede de Alcalá de Henares, desde donde se extendió por la Península, pasando a Canarias y a América. Don Juan Bautista de A. y García, Intendente de Canarias desde 1820, era natural de Villanueva de los Infantes en la provincia de Ciudad Real. Fue Comisario Regio para la aclimatación de la cochinilla en Canarias, a cuyo fin estableció con un criadero y depósito en Santa Cruz de Tenerife, con insectos que trajo de Cádiz, propagándolos luego por todo el Archipiélago. Había casado en Cádiz con Doña María del Rosario de Bobadilla, viuda de Don Bernardo de Cólogan y Fallon, con la que tuvo cuatro hijos: Don José María, nacido en Cádiz en 1819; Don Juan Bautista, nacido en Santa Cruz de Tenerife el 1 de junio de 1823; Doña María del rosario, nacida en Cádiz, y Doña Clara Josefa Ramona de A. y Bobadilla de Eslaba, bautizada en la parroquia de la Concepción de La Laguna, el 12 de agosto de 1827.
