La famiglia - ex Antiquis - di Recanati, nella marca di Ancona, comparisce nella storia di questa antica città fin da epoche remote. Già nel sec. XII la fam. aveva raggiunto grande potenza e splendore. Nei secoli precedenti si hanno notizie certe di Angeluccio, Prospero, Rinalduccio e Spedaliero. Nella V° Crociata Rinaldo fu capitano dei Crocesignati Piceni e morì combattendo in Terra Santa ove, da Federico II, era stato creato "Vicario Imperiale di Nazareth". I di lui figli nel 1260 ebbero il titolo di "Conti Palatini". Tra essi Stefano era già nel 1249 stato creato da Federico II "Conte di Castel S. Pietro" nella marca di Ancona. Da Pietro "signore di Corano", anche egli figlio di Rinaldo, discende Bartolomeo, detto da Recanati, che fu segretario e familiare di Adolfo I e di Ferdinando di Napoli, e che fu ascritto al patriziato napoletano nel 1464.
