Antichissimo casato feudale, di chiara e provata virtù, le cui diramazioni signoreggiarono, sin dal Medio Evo, in numerosi castelli dell'Umbria, delle Marche, degli Abruzzi e nel resto dello Stato Pontificio. Da Gubbio, ove godettero dei patriziati onori ed il feudo di S. Colombano, gli Antobenedetti si diramarono in Pergola, L'Aquila, Pesaro, Senigallia, Velletri ed in Roma; di conseguenza furono ascritti al ceto patrizio e nobile di quelle sedi ed ebbero i titoli di: conti di Pergola, patrizi di Gubbio e di Ostra. La famiglia, inoltre, possedette numerosi feudi. La baronia di Forcella appartenne, nel secolo XIII, al ramo Aquilano ed il Castello di S. Colomba fu signoria di un Antonello Antobenedetti, di Gubbio, nel 1250. I membri di tal famiglia ebbero, inoltre, il titolo di Conti di Vetoio. Pier Giorgio Antobenedetti, originario degli Abruzzi, si stabilì a Pesaro, nel secolo XV, ove fondò la propria famiglia, che poi fu fregiata
