Non meritano fede le asserzioni dei cronisti del seicento sull'origine di questa famiglia, che alcuni vogliono discesa da un Alberto di Filingher nob. del Wurttemberg, altri dalla illustre stirpe dei co. di Thun e passata in Friuli sui primi del trecento. Affermazioni queste accettate troppo alla leggera da storici moderni come il co. di Manzano nei suoi Annali del Friuli e dallo Schroder nel suo Repertorio. E' da ritenersi invece che, come asserisce il cronista Nicolò Monticoli, (dec. 1522), i membri siano originari di Amaro, piccola villa in Carnia; che da là passati verso la metà del quattrocento a Venzone, siano stati aggregati a quella cittadinanza e che, accumulata coi commerci una ingente sostanza, siano passati sui primi del cinquecento a Udine, dove nel 1518 ai 5 giugno vennero effettivamente iscritti fra le famiglie nobili della città. Bernardino di Floriano nel 1491 addi 16 maggio comperava dalla Rep. Ven.
