Famiglia sassarese le cui notizie risalgono al sec. XV. Apparteneva alla borghesia mercantile, alcuni furono consoli dei mercanti, altri ricopersero le magistrature sassaresi. Nel 1593 un Francesco ottenne il cavalierato ereditario per i suoi meriti militari e nel 1605 divenne luogotenente del maestro razionale. Nel 1594 un Antonio ebbe l'appalto del servizio postale di Sassari. Nel 1613 i figli di Francesco furono ammessi allo stamento militare nel parlamento del duca di Gandia; uno di essi, Matteo, nel 1628 ebbe il riconoscimento della nobiltà. Fu costume delle più antiche famiglie, le quali dopo la caduta del Romano Imperio, in quella inondatione de' Barbari, havendo i loro cognomi, sicome gli studi, e altre cose belle smarrito e restati solo con semplici nomi, trarre di nuovo i loro cognomi, e il loro casato da' nomi proprii paterni, e de' maggiori.
