En opinión de algunos tratadistas, fueron progenitores de este linaje el Conde Rodrigo el Belloso y su esposa la Condesa Dª. Alambert, de sangre real de Francia. Añaden que algunos descendientes de este matrimonio pasaron a Portugal, donde florecieron, siendo también Señores del castillo portugués de A. (cuyo nombre, sin duda, tomaron por apellido), que estaba situado cerca del Miño. Otos manifiestan que la primitiva casa de Araújo radicó en Portugal, en un lugar llamado Araújo, del concejo de Monsao, provincia del Miño y distrito de Vianna do Castello. Agregan que ese lugar estaba en un monte cerca de la orilla a la izquierda del río Miño , frente a la población gallega de Salvatierra. De esta rama familiar fué Vasco Rodrígez de Araujo que se le tiene por el primer señor de esa casa. Gonzalo Rodrígez de Araújo fue gran caballero, que mereció el título de Vasallo del Rey
