Die Mitglieder stammen aus der mächtigen Familie von Piacenza, von der es vor tausend Nachrichten gibt und von der Paveri, Malvicini und Banduco gleichermaßen abstammen. Viele Familienmitglieder zeichneten sich in Waffen und in den hohen kirchlichen Ämtern aus: Von vielen Privilegien wurde es von den Päpsten, von den Visconti, von den Sforza, von den Farnese, von den Bourbonen bevorzugt. Im Laufe der Zeit teilte es sich in verschiedene Zweige auf, die den Namen der Länder annahmen, die sie besaßen: Marquisen von Moncasacco, Castellaro, Morago, Grafen von Val Tidone, Monteventano, Montebissago und Veratto. Es gibt verschiedene Meinungen von Chronisten über die Herkunft des Namens "Arcello", aber die zuverlässigste und dass er vom Namen der Burg im Val Tidone von Piacenza abgeleitet ist, die sich auf einem sehr hohen Hügel fast arx coeli oder ara coeli befindet.
