Antichissima famiglia, detta Arcidiaconi o Arcidiacono, le cui prime attestazioni risultano anteriori al secolo decimo quarto. Era prerogativa di questa nobile famiglia ricevere ed associare i nuovi Vescovi di Pistoia al loro ingresso solenne in città, che avveniva dalla porta lucchese. E' assai interessante la descrizione del cerimoniale di ricevimento del nuovo Vescovo, riportata dal Fioravanti in Mem. istor. ( cap. IV). " E' da notarsi, che nei tempi antichi quando il nuovo Vescovo di Pistoia andava al governo della sua Diocesi si portava per tempo all'oratorio di S. Trinità fuori dalla porta lucchese incontrato da moltissimi cittadini pistoiesi, ricevuto dal tutto il clero regolare e secolare, e da tutti i Magistrai e rettori della città, ivi si poneva in ginocchioni ed adorava la croce, e gli porgeva il proposto della Cattedrale. Fatto questo, tutti quelli della famiglia A. si facevano avanti il Vescovo, e si ponevano in ginocchio,
