Die heraldische Tradition besagt, dass diese berühmte Familie, Ardito oder Arditi genannt, dieselbe ist, die in der Lombardei mit dem Namen Conti blühte und die im neapolitanischen mit den lombardischen Geiseln des Kaisers Federico II. Transplantiert wurde, diesen Namen verließ und änderte. Auf jeden Fall finden wir die Mitglieder dieser Familie, die seit 1444 im Lehen von Valentino im Fürstentum Citra investiert sind. Geronimo Arditi wurde am 8. März 1554 zum von Karl V. geliebten Ritter ernannt und als edle aristokratische Waffe bestätigt. Aus demselben Diplom wissen wir, dass er sich gegen die Türken ausgezeichnet hatte und dass sein Vater Troilo, der von König Friedrich zum Ritter des Armellino ernannt wurde, und sein Vorfahr Giuseppe Leonardo, königliche Trupps zur Zeit der Aragoneser, wertvolle Taten vollbracht hatten.
