Una delle più antiche ed illustri famiglie della città di Ravello, il cui capostipite si fa risalire ad un Orso vissuto introno al 1100. Fu compresa nel 1420 tra le nobili famiglie di questa città esonerate dalla regina Giovanna II dal pagamento dei pesi fiscali. Da Ravello si diramò a Sessa, Tropea, Nola, Manfredonia, Barletta, Trani, godendo ovunque gli onori della nobiltà. A Napoli fu aggregata al seggio di Nido. Fu ricevuta nell'Ordine Gerosolimitano dal 1596; fu infeudata di Castellabate, Macchia, Serramezzana e numerose altre terre. Giovanni fu arcivescovo di Manfredonia nel 1217; Marino, consigliere di Sommaria, celebre giureconsulto, autore del trattato De suffeudis; Andrea: prese parte alla battaglia di Lepanto, ottenendo nel 1572 il titolo di duca che fu imposto nel 1575 sul feudo di S. Felice; Albina fu moglie del principe di Massa, Francesco Toraldo, ucciso nella rivulozione di Masaniello.
