Léese que este apellido tomó el nombre de la villa de Ariza (Zaragoza), en la que tuvo su primitivo solar. Algunas de sus ramas pasaron a Navarra, la Rioja y Álava. Alejo, Diego Pablo, Domingo, Juan Antonio, Juan Felipe, Juan Jacinto, Manuel y Raimundo Javier de A., vecinos de Soto de Cameros (Logroño) y de Elciergo (Álava), ganaron provisión de hidalguía en la Real Chancillería de Valladolid en 1779. También la ganaron Cristóbal Francisco y Felipe Gregorio, vecinos de Soto de Cameros, en 1782 y1808, respectivamente. Otra rama trae por arma: en plata, tres libros cerrados, de gules, puestos dos y uno.
