Antica ed illustre famiglia del Regno delle Due Sicilie, originaria dall'Armenia, da donde il cognome, presente sia nella forma Armenio che Armenia, la quale ha goduto nobiltà in Messina dal secolo XIV al XVI e che risulta passata in territorio napoletano. La tradizione vuole che suo capostipite sia stato un Giorgio, gentiluomo d'Armenia che, essendo uno dei familiari di re Martino, in Messina diede principio alla propria famiglia. Egli ebbe infatti da re Martino l'incarico di censire ed aiutare i poveri nelle loro necessità e per tal motivo gli aveva assegnato 200 onze l'anno. Tal Giorgio prese in moglie Evandra, del fu Giuliano Alevandro, gentiluomo messinese. Da tal unione nacquero: Giuliano, Giovanni e Nicolò, che con ricchezze e nobiltà vissero. Da loro pervennero: Giorgio, Gio. Francesco e Nicolò, che furono progenitori di molti gentiluomini, tra cui Ruggero, giudice straticoziale e senatore di Messina. Gio.
