Diede principio alla famiglia A. agnominato pane, e vino, Bernardo cavalier Catalano, che passò d'indi in Sicilia con il Re Pietro I dal quale fù impiegato neè principali uffici della Città di Palermo, ed ivi si casò con la figlia di Nicolò di Critta gentilhuomo di quella Città, e n'acquistò Rodoriques Camariero del Rè Pietro secondo, ma distaccandosi della regia devotion e seguendo la ribbellione de' Chiaramontani, fu egli dal Rè Federico II posto inbando, e puoco poi hebbe i beni confiscati; perilche comparse inanzi il Rè, suo figlio Federico, e con molta instanza gli chiese l'assolution del padre, e la restitution de' beni; havendolo il Rè visto così ardito, e pronto con tanta puoca età, ridendo gli rispose, che cosa ne volesse faredel padre, e de' beni, replicò a lui il fanciullo con prontezza.
