Antica ed illustre famiglia delle cui origini non si hanno notizie certe. Fu fregiata del titolo di nobile. La presenza del motto nella bibliografia documentata della famiglia ci conferma l'avita nobiltà raggiunta della casata. Infatti l'origine del motto risale a circa il XIV secolo e deve essere ricercata in quei detti arguti che venivano scritti sui vessilli o bandiere dei cavalieri, esposti alle finestre delle locande in cui questi alloggiavano, in occasione dei tornei, e durante i tornei stessi. Motto della famiglia: Diu deliberandum semel statuendum. Nel corso dei secoli famiglie omonime della stessa si trasferirono in varie regioni d'Italia, donde ne acquisirono la nobiltà e vi furono accolti nelle importanti cariche della città dove ebbero dimora, una di esse ebbe per arma: D'azzurro seminato di stelle d'argento, al leone dello stesso attraversante sul tutto.
