Famiglia spagnuola e propriamente di Catalogna, venuta in Sicilia con Tristano Artale ed Artali nel 1394 ai servigi di re Martino. Fu castellano del regio palazzo, signore della Cuba e suo territorio in Palermo, come àssi dal p. Ansalone e Luca Barberio. Il di lui figlio Simone fu del pari castellano, non che capitano giustiziere nel 1439. Per opposizioni al vicerè Moncada la famiglia decadde dal suo splendore, e quinci passò in Bronte, lochè provasi da un atto giuridico ad istanza del dottor D. Paolo Artale e ricevuto dalla R. Gran Corte di Palermo del 1691. Da un Filippo Artale, che nel 1597 viveva in Bronte discende la linea dimorante a Palermo. Commendasi dal Mongitore un canonico Vicenzo Artale teologo, morto in edore di santità.
