Nobile ed antica famiglia originaria di Arvier da cui trasse il nome. Arme del casato: D'azzurro, al leone d'oro, colla fascia, per inchiesta di nero, caricata di tre fiori d'avellano d'argento, attraversante. Le prime memorie di essa rimontano al 1263, in cui un Aimone cavaliere ed Anselmo suo fratello servirono di testimoni ad un atto di donazione fatta da Pietro figlio di Marco d'Hugues signore di Bard al proprio nipote Guglielmo Sariod di tutta la sua porzione di signoria sul Chàtel Argent. Un Aimaro de la Mothe verso la fine del XIII secolo avendo sposato l'ultimo rampollo ed erede di questa famiglia, ne adottò l'arma e fece fabbricare il castello della Mothe.
